This Slow Cooker Braised Beef Ragu recipe is a true gem! It’s quick, healthy, and easy to make in small amounts. (If you love it, feel free to double or triple it!)
Ragu sauces are meaty sauces that contain a lot of minced veggies. They’re a healthy choice for your family and a delicious way to add missing nutrients to your diet.
Braised Beef Ragu is a quick and easy way to get those healthy foods into your diet without a lot of work. You can make this dinner on the busiest of days and have virtually no clean-up… or leftovers!
Using chuck roast in your Braised Beef Ragu gives it so much more flavor and depth than a “typical” spaghetti sauce.
Herb and garlic seasoning blend is delicious and makes it easy instead of pulling together a ton of different spices. It’s a versatile seasoning that I keep as a staple in my pantry.
Fire-roasted tomatoes add a rich sweetness and depth of flavor to the sauce. Regular tomatoes work in Braised Beef Ragu work as well. However, I know you’ll be pleased with the difference fire-roasted makes in this recipe.
Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Beef Ragu In A Slow Cooker…
- chuck roast
- olive oil
- herb and garlic seasoning
- onion
- jarred minced garlic
- fire roasted crushed tomatoes
- tomato paste
- beef broth
- honey
- Fresh cooked pasta for serving
How To Make Beef Ragu In A Slow Cooker:
- Season roast with herb and garlic seasoning
- Preheat olive oil over medium high heat in cast iron or heavy bottomed skillet
- Add roast and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until browned
- Transfer to slow cooker
- Mix together remaining ingredients except pasta
- Pour over roast
- Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8
- Once beef is cooked through, shred roughly with forks and stir back into sauce
- Serve over cooked noodles and top with fresh Parmesan and herbs or as desired
Pro Tips:
If you don’t care for the flavor of fire roasted tomatoes (or you don’t have any on hand) you can sub regular crushed tomatoes.
Make sure you remove any large pieces of excess fat before cooking meat. Otherwise, your dish will be greasy.
Do you like a thicker, richer sauce? Just add a splash of red wine. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Looks delicious and I would love to try it. If I tripled this would I really need 3 cans of tomatoes and 1.5 cups of beef broth?
Yes, but to warn you tripling would make a lot. While it does say two servings, it’s probably enough for each person to have some leftovers as well. How many people are you serving?
Hi Jennifer, I’m making this for company THIS Sunday 2-14-21. There will be just 4 of us, and when I use the multiplier it says I need a 3 pound roast, and 84 ounces of canned fire roasted crushed tomatoes! Is that tomato calculation correct? Seems like an awfully lot!
Sorry those numbers were for 6 people. For 4 people it’s a 2 lb roast and 56 oz of tomatoes. Still seems like an awful lot of tomatoes.
Yep that’s correct! It’ very saucy!
