Spiked Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon Whipped Cream
This is totally my bad, because I should have shared this recipe at least a week ago so that you could have been enjoying it this whole holiday season. But, better late than never, right? At least I hope so. And what better time to share a nice warm cozy drink with a little something extra for the grown-ups than right in time for New Year’s, or at least I hope! This is a rich delicious and chocolatey drink that will warm you head to toe even on a cold winter’s evening!
I wanted a hot chocolate that not only had a lot of chocolate flavor but was also really think and rich. A total after dinner/dessert type drink. I found out the way to achieve that richness was by adding a little cornstarch! Sounds crazy but it thickens it up will make it like no hot chocolate you’ve had before.
Also required, two kinds of chocolate. Dark cocoa powder AND semi-sweet chips! You could even add in some milk chocolate or any of your favorite chocolate squares if you really wanted to get wild and crazy ?
Add to that my new favorite sweetener in my hot drinks… powdered sugar! It just contributes so much to that rich and smooth texture! Give it a try and let me know if you prefer it over regular sugar too!
Dish a little bit out for the kids if you are inclined to share, add a little shot of brandy to the grown up’s servings, and now you have the best stay warm drink for the rest of winter and since it’s so easy to make in the slow cooker, I suggest you make it a weekly event ?
