What’s To Love About This Recipe
- I’ve tried just about every method for cooking corn on the cob. The Instant Pot is a foolproof way to cook it perfectly every time.
- With the Instant Pot, you don’t have to worry about potentially burning it on the grill or drying it out from overcooking.
- The steam and pressurized cooking result in juicy, tender, and crisp sweet corn! It is delicious on the cob with butter, sliced off the cob, and served as a side or added to other dishes.
- Instant Pot Corn on the Cob is a super fast, easy option to add a fresh veggie to the dinner table. Plus, kids love the experience of eating it on the cob – even picky eaters will find that this makes their meals a lot more interesting!
Ingredients Needed
- Corn – Use 6 ears of fresh corn on the cob for this recipe (not freezer-style). Many grocery stores now carry corn on the cob already shucked for convenience. If you purchase it with the husks, clean off the husks and silk threads.
- Water – It is important to add enough water to the pressure cooker to produce the necessary steam. Usually a cup or so of water will do!
- Kosher salt – This isn’t just your regular table salt! Kosher salt adds an elevated flavor and nice texture along with the butter.
- Butter – What would corn on the cob be without butter (gasp!)? Choose any kind of butter you like. Pure grass-fed butter is the premium option, in my opinion!
How To Make Corn On The Cob In The Instant Pot
- Add water to the bottom of the pressure cooker.
- Add a trivet (I used the one that came with my pressure cooker), and place the corn on top.
- Cover and seal, and set to high pressure for 2 minutes.
- Once finished, perform a quick steam release, carefully remove the corn with tongs, and place the corn in a bowl.
- Add butter and let it melt, then toss the corn and butter together with salt and serve.
Tips for Purchasing The Best Corn On The Cob:
- If you can find farm-fresh corn from a local grocery supplier, farmer’s market, or produce-delivery service, it is usually the best and sweetest variety available!
- You can even freeze fresh corn right in the husk to use for later. This is a great way to get while in season and enjoy it in later months.
- Fresh ears of corn should have a bright green husk, and you should be able to feel some moisture. Water retention is a sign that the ears of corn will be juicy and tender – not dried out.
How To Serve Corn On The Cob
Instant Pot corn on the cob is one of our favorite ways to add a fresh side to our summer meals. But, you can also use this handy method to prepare corn for your meals at any time! Fresh corn would be delicious with Slow Cooker Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes.
Add some corn to your next BBQ meal of BBQ Ribs and Hawaiian Macaroni Salad.
I also love preparing fresh corn in the Instant Pot to save for other dishes like Tomato Corn Salsa. Leftover corn is also a delicious option to add to salads, soups, or casseroles.
Storing and Reheating
Store leftover corn (on or off the cob) in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave.
You can also remove the corn from the cob and freeze it to use later. The taste is still fresh, and you can reheat in a pan on the stove or add it to other recipes.

Hi Jill. Just a quick question. You did say the corn should be in the liquid but only the bottom layer is. Do I add more liquid so the top ones are touching the liquid and the bottom ones are covered in liquid?
It seems very fast by using the instant pot! xo However I’m confused that part setting to high pressure for 2 minute and then let them cooked in the other 13 minutes?
