Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Microwave servings in 30-second bursts or warm it up in the oven at 300 ℉ for 10-15 minutes to get crispier edges.
Add a splash of milk or cream if the leftovers are too dry.
Let pieces of bread sit out overnight or toast them lightly in the oven before assembling to prevent sogginess.
To prep ahead, mix the liquid ingredients the night before and refrigerate. In the morning, add bread to the slow cooker, pour the liquid over it, and start cooking.
For easier cleanup, line the slow cooker with parchment paper or spray with nonstick spray.
Use either a casserole-style or regular slow cooker. Casserole slow cookers will cook slightly faster due to a shallower depth.
