Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 6 oz bacon
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 teaspoons jarred minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons stone ground mustard
  • 1/4 cup chicken bone broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating a large skillet and adding chopped bacon and diced onion. Cook until bacon is crispy and chopped onions are lightly browned.
  • Slice off cabbage stem and cut cabbage in half. Remove core and cut cabbage halves into large pieces (about 1 1/2 – 2 inches each).
  • Place cabbage in slow cooker and top with bacon and onions (include extra bacon grease).
  • Whisk together mustard, bone broth, and paprika, and pour mixture over cabbage.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours until tender.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.

Notes

  • Store leftovers for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers due to textural changes.
  • Reheat on a low-power setting in the microwave.
  • Add a little crushed red pepper for extra spice!
