Ingredients

  • 12 oz dried bread crumbs like the ones they sell around the grocery store in little bags this time of year
  • 3 tablespoon butter
  • 2 apples I used honey crisp
  • 3 ribs of celery
  • 1/2 yellow sweet onion
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rubbed sage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
  • 2-3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  • Measure and set aside bread crumbs
  • In large skillet over medium high heat melt 3 tablespoons butter
  • Peel and core apples and dice into bite sized pieces
  • Peel onion, cut in half and then slice into thin pieces
  • Slice celery ribs
  • Add apples, onion and celery to melted butter in skillet and sauté for 6-8 minutes until they start to turn golden brown
  • Add seasonings and continue to sauté for another minute or 2
  • Remove from heat and add breadcrumbs and cranberries to skillet
  • Slowly add broth a little at a time until all breadcrumbs are moistened but not soggy
  • Whisk together egg and stir into mixture
  • Transfer to slow cooker that has been sprayed with nonstick spray
  • Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours or low for 4-6 (until egg has fully cooked and texture is to desired crunchiness)

Notes

I cooked this on high for 2.5 hours in my 4 quart round slow cooker
