Whether you are new to meal prep or a seasoned pro, having the right equipment can help! Nothing fancy is required, just a few basic tools and you will be well on your way to simplifying family meal time!
At a minimum you will need a programmable slow cooker that you can set for the desired number of cooking hours and temperature. It will cook while you are away and automatically switch to a warm setting so there are no worries if you are gone for more than 8 hours. Anywhere from 4 to 6 quarts is generally best for families of 4 to 6.
To take it up a notch, a multi-cooker is a great time saving option! The all have different features, but at a minimum look for one that will allow you to brown ground meat and slow cook all in one pot!
A good set of knives will make prep time quick and easy. Having some that are colorful can actually make it fun!
You’ll also want a set of cutting boards or mats, preferably ones that have a few different colors so that you can easily divide meats and veggies and quickly do your chopping without having to stop and wash dishes.
Baggie holders are a life-saver when you want to save significant time in the kitchen. Label your bags, insert in the holders and line them up for easy drop and go as you are chopping.
And the next step…
And if your really plan to do a lot of meal prep and store a lot of meals in your freezer, you won’t regret using a vacuum sealer! This will keep your food fresh and free of freezer burn so you don’t have any waste!
