What if I told you the best ribs I’ve ever had didn’t come from a grill or a smoker or even my favorite BBQ restaurant, but instead, my slow cooker?! Does it sound totally insane? I kind of think it does, but yet here we are, talking about a traditional BBQ favorite and your slow cooker in the same sentence. It’s okay, I don’t mind if you look at me like I might have lost it, as long as you give these Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs a try!

Now, if I’m going to have ribs, they need to be worth all that work to eat them off of the bones. I found some extra meaty back ribs when I was at Wal-Mart the other day and they worked perfect for this recipe. They were totally worth the effort and had plenty of meat.

The ONLY thing I did to get them started was to rub them down with the Memphis spice blend from my brisket recipe that gives them amazing flavor. If you haven’t tried my Memphis spice blend I hope you will! I did have to cut the rack in half to get it to fit in my , but that’s it. Just cut carefully between the bones and it should be easy.

Once they’re done, you can pop them on a foil lined baking sheet (make sure you use a sturdy one, like that I use) and brush them with just a touch of BBQ sauce and broil them in the oven for just 2-3 minutes to get the perfect barbecued caramelization.

  1. Since my wife of over 50 years passed away I’ve been looking for different ways to prepare meals….We never used a slow cooker, but I’m loving it….I don’t like barbeque sauces on my meats….I’ ve tried your ribs with your Memphis rub recipe…..It’s fantastic without any sauce on them….The ribs are so tender and delicious…..Thank you….I will make this often

    1. Hi Tania! I recommend the low setting for best results. Cooking ribs too quickly can make them tough. If you want to give it a try I would start with 4 hours on high, but keep in mind they may not turn out how you are hoping.

    1. Hi Carol! I didn’t use any liquid, as they tended to produce their own as they started cooking. You could add just a little beef broth or water in the bottom if you are concerned that they could dry out, but I’d stick to only about 1/2 cup or so. Otherwise they turn out a little more braised or steamed than roasted.

  2. Holy Moly, those look delicious! I have not used my slow cooker much but you have inspired me. Great photos!
