15 Easy Recipes for your Casserole Slow Cooker

Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole

My new goal is to share more about the actual behind the scenes and the how to’s when it comes to slow cooking. I’ve been writing this blog for a couple of years now and slow cooking even longer (a lot longer!) than that and I feel like I now have enough experience under my belt and have tried enough products to give you my opinions as well as tips and tricks!

This Crock-Pot Casserole Crock is a great slow cooker to have in your line-up and is fairly inexpensive. It’s basically like your favorite 9×13 casserole dish but in slow cooker form. I can’t tell you how often I’ve used this now for all kinds of meals. It’s great for summer when you don’t want to heat up your whole house just to make dinner and it’s also great for Thanksgiving or any other holiday where oven space is in high demand. I have this original model and now there is a newer model as well that is programmable. As long as you have the space to store it, I think this is a worthwhile investment!

  1. Has anyone used their crick pot casserole for molten lava cake? I find recipes all over the internet for the traditional crock pot but not casserole. Anyone care to share?

    1. Looking for a good, easy jiffycornbread dressing. My mother-in-law made it all the time. She gave my husband the recipe. Jiffy cornbread, stovetop, small onion, 3 celery, some butter, broth, salt, pepper, sage to taste. Told him that is not a recipe it is a grocery list. She past and left me with the quest to find this recipe. Bless her soul. She didn’t think that maybe the recipe is something her son and or two sons, and family would enjoy.
If anyone can help me, I thank you for your time and any info you send my way, cindy

      1. Hi, Cindy – my ideas/thoughts from your list would be:
        – Make the Jiffy cornbread, and let it cool.
        – Chop (small or fine to preference) the celery and onion and then saute to soften.
        – Add some butter (since it makes everything great, the amount would be “plenty”) to the saute pan after the veggies are softened (don’t want to burn the butter, but to melt it and absorb the flavors of the veggies).
        – When cornbread has cooled, break it into chunks or pieces (this is preference, if you like chunks or finer bits).
        – Combine your dry Stovetop mix with the broken cornbread.
        – Season with the salt, pepper and sage (to taste).
        – Pour the butter-veggie blend over the bread mixes, and mix it up.
        – Pour broth over – if your family likes a drier dressing, add enough broth to moisten. If you like a moister dressing, add enough to make small puddles on top. You can always add more if needed while baking.
        – Transfer to a buttered casserole dish or slow cooker.
        – Bake at 350 until it begins to brown up to your liking, or cook in a crockpot (I use Low in a basic oval-shape for ours). The crock-pot will likely brown on the sides but not the top like the oven.

I don’t measure but your message was so sweet and I just wanted to try and offer some ideas. 🙂

    2. have not seen any yet. what I do is, cut a regular open,(bottom & sides) as to have equal sheets. line insert with 1 half. works well for me.

    1. Hi Jana! I would suggest either a 2-3 quart regular slow cooker or the 2.5 quart casserole slow cooker. Actually, depending on what you are making and how often you use them, both wouldn’t be bad either 😉

  2. Hey Jennifer….can you make like a big pie or quiche in one of these? I have one but have not tried that yet and was wondering if you had. Thanks.

    1. I need to do some more testing but I think a quiche would work well. I’m hoping to try out something like a berry or an apple pie soon!

  3. Hi! Do you think it’s is possible to use the disposable silver casserole size pans in this instead of the dish it comes with? That way I could make some casseroles and put them in the freezer, get them out and pop them in here to cook!

    1. Hi Jen! While I love the idea, I’m not too sure about this. I would suggest writing to the company and asking for their recommendation. Otherwise, maybe you could pop them out of the disposable pans and into the slow cooker when ready to make?

  4. My husband and I have a 3.5 quart crock pot. I need some easy reciepts for chicken, and soups. We are not seafood people. Want to do casseroles dishes in a crock pot in our 3.5 quart because that is the perfect size for us. Do you have a cookbook?

    1. Hi Susan! I don’t have a cookbook other than the freezer meal book I offer free when signing up for my email list. Check out these soup recipes from my site. You could easily cut the recipes in half OR make a full recipe and freeze the leftover in individual soup containers and thaw and heat them for lunch later.

  5. I remember telling you how my family started using the slow cooker recently. Well I didn’t tell you that it’s probably 30 years old, and we just started using it! Been looking for a new one, and these seem great.

I like how you can make casseroles in it, and how it’s a bit smaller than the 5-qt (we always have too much food). Now correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you make all your usual crockpot recipes in it, like soups and dips?

    1. Yes! Hey, nothing wrong with those old slow cooker, I still use one we got as a wedding gift 🙂 I love the casserole slow cooker, however, I wouldn’t recommend it for soups or anything with too much liquid. It’s pretty shallow, more like a 9×11 casserole dish. Of course you can make all kinds of meats and veggies in it, and of course casseroles. I’d chose a 4-6 quart oval or round slow cooker for soups. Hope that helps. Keep an eye out, I have a post coming up that talks about how to create a “slow cooker” kitchen 🙂
