If you read my post on my healthy eating philosophies, you’ll know that I truly believe that one of the most important factors in sticking to your eating goals is to plan ahead. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to stay within a budget, or eating a particular diet or just trying to avoid eating out, having a solid plan that’s easy to stick to will go a long way in helping you achieve that goal.
Probably one of the most important ways a slow cooker can help with this? Well, quite honestly, it forces you to! You can’t decide at 4:57 that you want a slow cooked roast for dinner and then actually have time to execute on that idea. You’ve got to have a meal planned out, if not at least a day in advance, at least 8 hours in advance!
If you’re not used to it, this kind of planning will be tricky at first! Maybe you want to have 2 or 3 slow cooked meals a week. That means sitting down on the weekend, looking up some recipes, coming up with a shopping list, purchasing and organizing the ingredients and then actually cooking them before they go bad.
So why go to all this trouble? Well, because if you want to eat at home, you are going to have to do all the work at some point anyway, right? Why not get in the habit of doing it ahead of time and reducing your stress during the week? Try it for just a month and see! Are you eating at home more? Are your meals healthier? Are you more relaxing about getting dinner on the table during the week? Is your family happier being able to sit down to meals on a more consistent basis?
